The Impact of Legal Raising Awareness Activities on Land and Natural Resources in Phaluang village, Feuang district, Vientiane province, Laos
Through LIFE student volunteer program batch 3, student volunteers gained practical skills and experiences through the Legal Raising Awareness Activities on Land and Natural Resources in village level. The volunteer group of Phaluang village consisted of 4 members and had implemented the activities in this village for three rounds. The first was to collect data on changes of natural resources use by using participatory approach; the second round was the legal raising awareness activity and the third round was to provide legal counseling to villagers related to land customary land rights and land right holders as well as conflict resolution.
These activities in Phaluang village helped local villagers to understand better for their rights over land and natural resources especially inheritance rights over property, women land rights and the institutions where they could access to justice when the conflict related to land arise from local to central levels. Most of villagers in this village are Hmong ethnic group, so student volunteers Hmong language to communicate as well as selected Hmong language-tools such as videos for during the legal raising awareness activities in the village.District authorities also praised the student volunteers for their creativities during the activity implementation through different tools such as posters, drawing and videos that help local villagers understand laws and regulations better.
