LIFE student volunteer program batch 2: The Implementation of Sustainable Village Forest and Natural Resources Protection in Houaysai village, Thateng district, Sekong province, Laos.

Throughout the implementation of LIFE student Volunteer program batch 2 from 2022-2024, it enables the good impact on village forest management in their hometowns. The Village Protection Forest Management Agreement in Houaysai village, Thateng district, Sekong province, Laos was the result from the long-term community engagement through legal raising awareness activity related to land and natural resources, led by one of student volunteers from Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, National University of Laos who participated in LIFE youth program.

The youth-led activities in the village level facilitated the discussion among community members for what they wanted to improve related to natural resource management in the village. After the discussion and consultation, villagers of Houaysai village collectively proposed the idea to student volunteer to support on forest protection. From the close collaboration and well support from Thateng district authorities, the Village Protection Forest Management Agreement in Houaysai village, Thateng district, Sekong province was successfully created and it is now approved by district governor.

Throughout the process since the beginning, all activities were actively engaged and participated by villagers. In the same time, student volunteer also gained knowledge and useful experiences that she could utilize her volunteering experience with LIFE project into her study as well as career path. Importantly, community members admired student volunteer’s effort and commitment to lead all these activities successfully in her hometown.
